The Truth Commission

DOCU
Documentary : 138', 1999
Directed by André Van In
Synopsis
Before 1994, South Africa had never known democracy. They therefore had to invent their own model. This was the task of the new government and of all South Africans. To reach that goal, all the country’s communities, deeply wounded and divided by apartheid had to reconcile with one another. One of the first decisions taken by Nelson Mandela was to create the “Commission for Truth and Reconciliation ”, reconciliation only becoming possible after the past had been “judged ”, “cleansed ” and “exorcised ”. It is the evolution of this commission, with its turns and own dramatic dimension which was the basis for the shooting of this film. For as with the country, our characters participate in the dynamic transforming process.
